Gil is the currency used within the game to purchase and upgrade items, as well as supporting Free Company activities.
There are various methods for earning Gil in Final Fantasy XIV. Here are three of the more common approaches: crafting, gathering and retainers.
Crafting
Crafting is one of the primary means of earning Gil in Final Fantasy XIV, whether from your home workshop, Free Company workshops, or by selling at market.
Players can also gain buy ffxiv gil by killing enemies and finding treasure chests; there is even the possibility of an enemy kill multiplier when killing multiple enemies, helping increase how much Gil they gain from each kill.
As with any in-game money making methods, it’s crucial to take into account opportunity cost when making decisions regarding gathering and crafting time investments. Otherwise, your time could be put to better use elsewhere and could make more money than spending it collecting and crafting materials.
Be mindful that each server and DC offers different prices and markets; an approach that works on one server may not work on another due to competition, making it hard to achieve consistent profitability per hour.
Gathering
Gil is essential to unlocking new weapons, mounts and houses in Final Fantasy XIV. In fact, collecting Gil is part of playing the game itself, whether you want to stay current on gear updates or try your hand at higher level crafting.
Questing, the daily duty roulettes and working on your challenge log are great ways to generate Gil. Each side quest and leve you complete earns Gil, while monster kills bring even more. Crafters can make good use of the Market Board by selling their products or even selling directly to other players for a commission.
An advanced Disciple of the Land can use Treasure Maps to unlock treasure, which yield a vast bounty in Gil and Tomestones, along with unique materials and items worth thousands. You can sell them via Market Board or Retainers as one way of making passive income.
Retainers
Retainers are invaluable NPC aides that can assist you with storage, selling unwanted items on the Market Board and performing quick Venture assignments. Two are included with your FFXIV subscription; up to seven more retainers may be hired through Mog Station or by talking with Retainer Vocates in major city states.
Retainers can store up to 175 items each and be assigned to sell items on any market in any of the City-States. You can customize their appearance as well as assign each retainer with its own nickname.
Retainers can complete quick Venture assignments to quickly earn FFXIV Gil, as well as taking orders from you to buy gear from other players at an agreed-upon price. This feature was carried over from the original version of Final Fantasy XIV but may be discontinued in future patches. Retainers also provide valuable equipment repair services which provide materials needed for crafting and gathering activities.
Selling
FFXIV gives players many ways to earn FFXIV Gil, an essential in-game currency needed for purchasing mounts, equipment and houses. You can earn it through quest completion, crafting and farming; selling items on the market board or through market board auctions; as well as through killing enemies (gil is awarded for doing both!). Furthermore, unlike Company Seals or Allagan Tomestones which are earned through running away from battle; Gil can only be earned when fighting is won and not simply by fleeing!
Players can purchase Gil Coins online sellers to gain in-game Gil, however this should be done at their own risk as Square Enix has stringent EULA and ToS to abide by, prohibiting selling or buying real money Gil for real. Furthermore, purchasing Gil is one of the fastest and simplest methods of gaining in-game gold.
